Community Based Libraries
In 2007, Oasis International Resources provided min-grants to establish community based libraries focused on helping children perform better in school. Most of these children grew up in relative poverty where an average family income is less than $70 per month or around $2 a day! Families typically have little left over with which to buy school books, much less anything for fun reading. Individuals that are selected by OIR to open these community based libraries are responsible, honest, community-minded people who are already helping the children of their neighborhoods. The grants provided by OIR are used to buy books, bookshelves, and cane carpets that furnish the libraries.
